Abstract

Biological collections are a way of preserving the living heritage of different regions, so that it can be appreciated and studied by researchers and nature lovers. Museums dedicated to this purpose are of great importance for taxonomists and for environmental education. This paper presents the catalog of decapod species in the Basic Collection of the Institute of Ecology and Systematics, Havana, Cuba. This collection is composed of 71 specimens in which seven families, 10 genera, 16 species and 7 subspecies are represented. The collection was kept for several years as a closed collection due to the lack of specialists and technicians dedicated to Carcinology
