Abstract
This investigation provides the first data about the community composition of birds associated to Parque Zoologico Santiago de Cuba and analize the importance of the area for birds. The study was carried out during 2018 with a monthly visit, using the method of point counts with fixed radius (25 m). The zoological park birdlife is distributed by 46 species, grouped in 11 orders, 19 families and 33 genera, 31 are permanent residents, 13 winter residents and 2 summer residents. The most abundant species were: Passer domesticus, Quiscalus niger, Ptiloxena atroviolaceus y Streptopelia decaocto. The most abundant migratory species were Setophaga ruticilla and Setophaga americana. It houses the only population of Amazona leucocephala in the eastern part of the Sierra Maestra. It is a transit area, wintering area and resupply area for winter migratory species in the city.
