Update on threatened terrestrial mollusks in Holguin province: their habitats and threat factors
Main Article Content
Abstract
In the Red Book of Cuban Terrestrial Invertebrates, 82 taxa of threatened mollusks are evaluated, but many Cuban species are still not evaluated. In this study, the knowledge of threatened mollusks in Holguin province, their municipal distribution, habitats, threat factors and known allopatric populations is expanded and systematized. Data were collected mainly from field observations between the years 2017 to 2023. Twenty-nine species are categorized as threatened for the province. Most occupy more than two habitat types and disturbances of anthropogenic origin were more frequent than those caused by natural events. Six cerionid species were categorized as Critically Endangered, which have a very restricted distribution to the coastal zone. This work provides necessary information for decision making at the territorial level and contributes elements for the protection of the province's biodiversity.
