Abstract
The hills of Maniabón are a priority area for the management and conservation of herpetofauna in Holguín province. This study aims to characterize the diversity of amphibians and reptiles, as well as to identify their main threats and propose measures for their conservation in the locality of “El Resbaladero”, Holguín province. Three expeditions were made to the study area: from 20th to 23th February, 3th to 6th August in 2019, and January 4th, 2020. The semideciduous forest, cuabales, gallery forest and secondary vegetation plant formations were inspected in 1-hour tours. The Jaccard index was used to evaluate the biological similarity between plant formations by composition of faunal species. The accumulated species richness for the study area is seven amphibians and 22 reptiles, representing 25,9 % and 28,6 % of the diversity reported for each group in the Holguín province. The result of the Jaccard index showed a high biological similarity between all plant formations. The gallery forests and semi-deciduous forest of Cerro Colorado have the greatest relevance for the maintenance of herpetofaunal diversity in the locality of “El Resbaladero”.
