Flora and vegetation in the southern keys of the province of Sancti Spíritus

Abstract

A study of the flora and vegetation present in the keys with accumulations of sand in the south of the province of Sancti Spíritus is carried out. A total of 68 species of flora were counted, belonging to 31 botanical families, grouped into 61 genera. Several plant formations were identified, such as the sandy coast vegetation complex, which in some cases presents settings where a community with low arboreal elements appears on sand, as well as scrub and grassland on sand, but the forest stands out for its extension and representativeness mangrove forests. The floristic similarity with other lands, the growth habits and the conservation status of the identified species are analyzed.
