Rewiew of the Phyllogoniaceae family (Bryophyta) in Cuba
Main Article Content
Abstract
As part of the bryological studies in Cuba, the review of the monogeneric Phyllogoniaceae family was carried out, represented by the genus Phyllogonium and its three species: P. fulgens (Hedw.) Brid., P. viride Brid. and P. viscosum (P. Beauv.) Mitt., based on field work carried out for more than 30 years and the review of the BSC, HAC and HAJB herbaria. The genus was characterized by its pendulous habitat, leaves arranged in two rows, conduplicate, oblong or oblong-ovate, apiculate or truncated apex and auriculate base. Phyllogonium viscosum constitutes the first record for the Antilles. This genus represented a common element in the montane forest and in Cuba it was distributed in the mountain massifs of the Sierra Maestra, Nipe-Sagua-Baracoa and Sierra del Escambray. This study offered a characterization of the taxa present in the national territory, taxonomic identification keys and data on their ecology and distribution in Cuba, the world and the protected areas of the national territory.
